This week's Boss Babe Spotlight is with Gail Brunoro the owner of Bevefresco! Which is a luxury reusable beverage chilling bag perfect for your favourite wine, champagne, or whatever you prefer to sip in style!
I had the pleasure of meeting Gail last year at the I Like Her Style Vancouver Christmas party, we were both vendors! Since then we have partnered on plenty of photo shoots together as our brands complement each other perfectly. We both have the same mindset when it comes to business COLLABORATION OVER COMPETITION.
Hope you enjoy getting to know her as much as I have.
First off tell us a bit about you and when you started Bevefresco?
To start, David and I live in beautiful Ocean Park, just up the bluff from Crescent Beach where our wedding photos were taken 23 years ago.
Like many of our fempreneur friends, I wear a lot of hats; in addition to Bevéfresco, I provide consultancy services within the legal community, and I manage a small law firm. I also have a coaching practice and that gives me a ton of satisfaction. My favorite thing about coaching is seeing clients achieve breakthroughs. There’s a physical change in people when they discover a way to get past a roadblock (or midblock) and find renewed energy to push towards their goals.
My feel good activity is volunteering. For the past seven years, I’ve been a volunteer with The Cmolik Foundation where I am presently the Chair of the Mentoring Committee. I’m really proud to be a part of such an amazing organization that provides full scholarships to students who otherwise would not be able to attend university.
Running is my go-to exercise when I need to clear my mind, although it’s equally important for me to have a creative outlet so I always have a sketchbook on hand – I love designing, drawing, writing, and painting.
As a start-up, you’re often working with limited resources, which means that there are unlimited opportunities for exercising creativity. For me, that’s been one of the best things about bringing the Bevéfresco product and brand to life. I started product design in early 2017 and it took almost one year, and numerous iterations, until I finally had a prototype that I was excited to bring to market.
What made you go out on your own?
I had a long career in corporate, working at a government-run insurance company. Enough said.
What’s your WHY?
My core values center around relationships. I believe that one of the keys to happiness is having close relationships and belonging to a community of like-minded people. I really love connecting people and bringing them together in celebration.
For me, there’s nothing better than getting together with my girlfriends over a bottle of wine, and that’s really why I created the Bevéfresco Luxe Champagne Chilling Bag. It’s there to remind us to hold a space in our busy lives to connect and celebrate.
What’s your favourite part of answering to yourself?
Answering to myself means that I can operate my business in a manner that aligns with my values. It feels great to be out on my own and to have to rely on my resourcefulness. I also have flexibility, and that is really important to me.
What has been your biggest challenge and how did it make you stronger?
Being bullied. It was really bad and caused me to develop a lot of health issues, but I’m grateful for the personal growth. I wouldn’t be doing what I love today if not for going through that.
What BOSS BABE do you look up to?
Madonna. She’s fearless, disciplined, and she’s a marketing genius.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years I would like to have a more unified focus, I love being a manager at the law office and I enjoy the consulting work, but I know that I could be a lot more effective if I directed my energies with greater alignment.
Some FUN STUFF!
What is your favourite junk food?
Cheese. Does that count? I don’t really eat a lot of junk food, although I’ve had an addiction to the Lindt sea salt chocolates since Christmas.
Where’s you favourite place to shop?
New York. Seriously though, I love great design but can’t justify spending my entire budget on a single item. That’s why I love consignment; nothing excites me more than the thrill of the find.
Where’s your favourite place travel?
We’ve been fortunate to travel to so many wonderful places, but I would have to say that Italy is my favourite place in the world. My father’s family immigrated from Italy, and from the time I was a young girl, it was my dream to visit. Italy is like my soul mate, I feel fully alive when I’m there.
In fact, the entire Bevéfresco brand is based on my love for the Italian way of life. You see, in Italy, life happens in the town square (the piazza). It’s the place where people meet and stay connected. The brand name, Bevéfresco is the combination of two Italian words that literally translate as Drink Cool. It’s my hope that in some small way, Bevéfresco will bring more of that piazza lifestyle in our own lives.
